Migration of the Land Whale

Wonders never cease
especially when it comes to the neighbors
I would guess them to be obese
But they never leave the house
so I honestly could not say
But while standing outside tonight
the suspicion was on display
As I looked down to the right
half a block from me
I saw a care pull out of the drive way
and ease out on the street
Instead of heading to the through fare
instead of going who knows where
it pulled into the neighbors drive way
and into the garage it disappeared

Looking Up

Growing up
the sky was full
of stars
Endless stretches
of countless pin points
of light
It made us feel small
and yet free
and spry
No walls to limit
a young and active
imagination

But now that we are older
and we "know better"
there is always a
shallow ceiling overhead
Be it because of our fear
or our false air of superiority
from small town to city
looking down and at our feet
We shut off the sky
with lamp and street light
abolished the night
under a decry of safety
And so always boxing in
the eye that looks
beyond the horizon
past the kiddie pool
and tunnel vision
